Kim Kraushar is truly an innovator in the world of BodyMind Fitness. As a dancer and an athlete, her passion for movement started early on. Yet after a significant back injury as a teenager, she realized that in order to continue doing the activities she loved, she had to keep her body healthy and injury free. Kim graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology (the study of human movement).
This perfectly applicable vocation has led her on a journey into how fundamentally crucial the body/mind disciplines are in order to live a healthy, balanced life. In the early nineties, Kim traveled throughout west and southeast Asia, falling in love with the culture and people. Along the way, she studied meditation, music, yoga, and even Thai massage. She and her husband, Brent, brought all this new-found wisdom back to Interlude Spa (the family business, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia).
Yet it was a Pilates class during a dance internship in the late eighties that truly put Kim on a lifelong path of learning how to heal through mindful movement. Kim could not shake the desire to implement this unique concept of Pilates into her own teachings. She trained for a few years in Toronto where she became the second person in Canada outside of the Toronto headquarters to become a STOTT PILATES® Instructor Trainer. In addition, Interlude Spa was one of the first STOTT PILATES® licensed training centres in Canada, an impressive feat, as now over one hundred exist across the globe.
Kim’s passion for understanding the body/mind connection is evident in everything she does. She has traveled the globe as an International Presenter for Merrithew™, a Canadian-based company who are global leaders in the health and fitness industry. Through this opportunity as a presenter, Kim gets to see and experience first hand what is coming with regards to fitness research, innovation, and application. Kim has built an impressive reputation as a passionate leader and lifelong seeker who is devoted to bringing all she learns through her personal studies and embodiment practices into the minds and bodies of the Merrithew global community.
Currently, Kim is a Merrithew™ Master Instructor Trainer and an integral member of the education programming team, representing STOTT PILATES®, ZEN•GA®, CORE™, Halo® Training and Total Barre® programming.
She is featured in several new Merrithew video releases and she offers in-person and online class options for anyone wanting to learn how to strengthen their bodymind through an approach that is attentive and respectful of their personal needs on any given day. Along with her above credentials, Kim continues to study the works of leaders in a wide variety of breath-based somatic meditation and mindful movement practices (Realization Process, Vipassana Meditation, Hypopressives, Z-Health Neurocentric Education, Wim Hoff Method, Oxygen Advantage, Anatomy in Motion, Heart Math Institute, Katy Bowman, Mary Bond, Diane Lee).
